I installed Windows 7 Beta on a new 120GB, 5400RPM drive (Thanks for the advice, Nomo!) on my P1610, 1GB RAM. The ZIF cable took forever to arrive (well, a month). The Windows 7 install went flawlessly and the only driver I had to install was for a high speed cardbus adapter. W7 recognized the ethernet driver so I had internet immediately on install (on the Thinkpads, I've had to install the drivers manually to get to the internet) and Windows Update took care of the rest. W7 runs great on the P1610, as well as XP with a stripped down set of services. Very nice!
I had already figured out how to get the Cisco VPN running; this was the only significant stumbling block I've had with W7 expect video drivers on a desktop. I have 100% software functionality now.
I owe a lot of thanks -- I'm not sure I would have tried and I certainly wouldn't have upgraded the hard drive without the benefit of this forum! (I was a member a long time ago, too; I had a P-2040 but a bunch of Thinkpads in between.) |

Had the same truesuite.fpr crashes.
I've got it working (on build 7000) on my 1510 by uninstalling the beta stuff from authentec, rebooting, removing the device in devicemanager, reinstalling the beta, rebooting.
Now the explorer.exe crashed right after I learned the fingerprints but it works now. |

I've been working with Windows 7 for a while now and I think I will return to Vista or a better build of W7 is leaked. I suffer from constant crashes. It is always after the computer wakes from sleep mode. It is unresponsive and I have to force a restart. Every time. It is tiresome and I'm afraid of ruining some log in files and then BSOD. No, I won't wait until this happens.
But now that Vista SP2 is just around the corner, I don't like the idea to install Vista SP1. Oh well.

I fixed my blue screen, it was the fujitsu hard drive shock sensor. Windows 7 even warned me against installing it, but I didn't listen. After uninstalling the utility I haven't had a blue screen in the weeks since uninstalling it.
Win 7 runs extremely nice. Couple things I miss are the auto rotate when I swing the tablet into portrait (have it set to buttons currently). I also miss the onmipass utility where you could sign into any web site with your fingerprint. But I won't install the slow as hell Omnipass software so oh well.

I got the auto rotate to work on my 1620 by going into Program and Features in the Control Panel and uninstalling Intel Media Accelerated Driver. I then went into the Device Manager to make sure the drier was removed under the Display Adapter. I reset my computer and reinstalled the latest driver from the Fujitsu site. After that the auto rotate started working. I hope this helps. |

Touch with stylus and fingernail is working great good response right to the edges on all sides...i did notice the WIN 7 calibration steps were different than the Fujitsu utility if i recall.
WIN 7 bluetooth is enabled as well i don't have any bluetooth devises to test it though.
I don't have the latest bios installed yet but I'm in no rush to do so.
Basically the only Fujitsu cd i needed was the utility's cd to wipe hard drive..after WIN 7 is installed the OS takes care everything thing but tablet buttons.
My performance base score is 2.1 with 1 gig of ram nothing to brag about
Testing will continue...

I'm ready to install and test W7 on my P1620 as soon as the new 120GB HDD arrives, I'll leave the stock drive in its state to have a known good configuration i can always revert to. Especially as I'm sure some of the spespammered apps/hardware I use for work won't work under W7...

Give it a try. Most Vista drivers work fine in Win7, in my experience. Even some XP ones.

I've seen that XP ones would usually work when I tried the beta on my EEE for a few hours, was really surprised and I will definitely give it a try. But I just mean I don't have much hope, as those things are usually strictly XP, no 64bit nor Vista...

Not ready for Vista 7 yet. I installed the package using the upgrade method and it was flawless; however, uninstalling drivers and reinstalling did not solve the button issue. The deal breaker for me was power management; sometime the power switch enabled sleep other times the screen went black and the hard drve spun down. Only a forced reboot would help. I liked the improved TIP, eye candy, and overall look of the OS. I suppose it was necessary for MS to allow timed desktop background changes, but the similarity of this feature in OS X is familiar. Oh yeah, restored Vista Business using My Recovery (thank you, Fujitsu for this gem) and am back exactly where I started, except the bump sensor still doesn't work. |

OK, so I received my 5400rpm drive 3 days ago, and installed W7. I've got a whole new machine!!
W7 is incredibly more responsive and smooth than XP! Even with 100% CPU load the UI is still perfectly smooth with no slowdowns like there was with XP even when doing nothing... and everything loads/opens FAST.
In terms of drivers most of the hardware was running smoothly upon install, I just had to install fujitsu's BT driver (vista version) as apparently W7 doesn't support A2DP by default and I always use my BT headphones. Same as above I couldn't get the buttons to work, but rarely use them anyway. The fingerprint sensor doesn't work, I tried several things with various drivers, and finally got the enrollment interface to work, but when I swipe the finger on the sensor nothing happens.
Also in the little hardware issues, on a couple of my devices the pc would partly crash when installing the driver, but after a reboot the driver would be installed and the device was working (Delkin adapter and PCMCIA TV card). Most of my devices needed manual installation (selecting driver location), but all worked in the end.
But those are definitely very minor quirks next to the greatly improved overall handling / feeling of the machine. Finally a TIP that is really useable, has visual feedback, doesn't take 2 seconds to load and show up when the little button actually decides to appear... No problems with standby on this side, it works perfectly normally.
Even some apps like Outlook or Photoshop seem to be loading faster than on my 3.6GHz core 2 duo/RAID0 equipped desktop PC... The new HDD certainly plays a role but the OS definitely has to take some too.
So in conclusion I'm VERY happy, this will stay my working config now, and I'm happy not to have gone an unnecessary SSD route with associated complications. The 5400rpm drive fits the job perfectly.

Hi guys,
I've put Windows 7 on my P1610 now and so far its great. I can't believe how much better than XP it performs and its the first time I've used my P1610 without the fan constantly being on.
I did have a bit of a false start by going straight into installing Vista drivers for anything and everything from the Fuji website which totally killed Windows 7. I can't be sure which driver was responsible but everything literally took two or three minutes to respond - thank goodness for System Restore!
This time I haven't installed any Vista drivers and have got almost everything working:
Touch Screen (doesn't quite go to the edge on the right hand side middle though) Sound (thanks to an earlier post which suggested changing devices in control panel) Mouse (although clicking on the eraser head doesn't produce a click anymore) Fingerprint (although this worked a couple of times but didn't work the last time I logged in - hopefully it will be back...)
Can any one help me with the buttons on the screen surround? Has anyone got this working?
Also, has anyone got the mouse stick working so that you can click on the stick itself?
Thanks a lot

Oh hey, P1610 user then? Nice, I'm using my P1620 for recording at the field at times, when choosing it I thought the P1610 might be a bit short with its slower CPU ;)
Yes it was a shame I couldn't come, but unfortunately it wasn't something I could do anything about myself... I did say right at the start when they chose the date that I couldn't come there ;)
I just managed to get the buttons to work, by installing all the 3 vista button-related drivers (button driver, button utility, generic I/O).

Hi Piotr,
Thanks for the link. I also have a P1610 1GB with built in HSDPA (Sierra MC 8775). I am using the Vista driver/ watcher application from the Fuji website and it works fine.
Is the version you posted better in some way?
Many thanks

Dear Simon, After installation of vista watcher my modem didnt work so I googled and found the newest watcher which worked for me. I dont see major changes in the application except of new GUI design. Functionalities are the same. Funny thing was that it somehow recover old settings for Carriers. I mean I had vista before and wipe drive clean and install windows 7 from the scratch. After installing watcher (new one) it showed me all previous settings I had (3 custom 3G networks) |

Hey guys,
I don't think this has been covered yet but I was able to get the shock sensor working with Windows 7. Go to this website:
http://www.notebook-driver.com/fujitsu/fujitsu-lifebook-p1610-tablet-notebook-windows-vista-drivers/ br /
First Download and Install -Fujitsu System Extension Driver (FUJ02E3) then, -Fujitsu System Extension Utility Restart your computer Then Install -Fujitsu Shock Sensor Utility V.2.0L20a Restart your computer
When Windows boots back up just open the Shock Sensor utility and you should see that it is working. |

I followed the steps from Pen-demic suggested above and the Shock Sensor is also working now on my P1610 with W7 Build 7100 (Just shaked my tablet for a bit and the balloon warning sign appears as impact detecetd). Thanks for the update!
I haven't tested the Windows 7 for quite sometime, since Feb, although just a couple of weeks ago I downloaded the W7 Build 7100, but have not installed it until today.
Now the Wireless LAN On-Off Switch also works automatically without installing additional Fujitsu drivers, so I could turn on/off the WiFi by switching it.
One more thing to add is that now with this Build 7100, I could run the "Portable" version of some of my applications (portable photoshop 7/CS, for instance). However, not all "Portable" version of the applications could work. |

Hi! Just got me an used 1610 (1 gb ram / 80 gb hdd / 3g modem) and a clean install of Win7. Everything is working great, except when putting the computer into hibernation it still drains a lot of battery. I can also hear a very low high-pitched noise from the computer if i put my ear to it.
Is this related to Win7 or is it hardware related? Read in other threads that states that on the 1510 its OS related.
Whats you experiences, have anyone compared battery drainage in hibernation compared to XP or vista?

I partitioned my P1610 and then installed the Win 7 Enterprise edition (90 day trial)on one of the partitions, leaving Win XP Pro on the other. I can now boot into either OS. I really like Win 7 and find it to be a nice upgrade from XP (I never used Vista on any of my computers so I can't compare it to that). My P1610 also has the built in Bluetooth, which works great with XP. However, I can't get it to work with 7. The drivers are there, and it finds my BT mouse, but when I try to add the mouse, I get an error message that says I don't have the proper authentication or passcode. There is no passcode with this mouse. I had no trouble installing it on the XP side, so I don't know why I can't get it to work in Win 7. Anyone else have a problem with BT in Windows 7? Thanks!

Hey folks - thanks for the info! I've just installed the released Windows 7 and installed the system extension and shock utility. I see that the shock utility is recording shocks, but I'm not getting any balloon notifications (and that option is checked in the config). I've tried both Normal and Mobile sensitivity, and given it some pretty good shakes.
Any thoughts? How can I know if my HDD is being protected if I'm not getting the balloon notifications?
Do I need any special HDD driver?
Thanks! Kevin |

The problem is, there is no place to enter a passcode. Once I click on "BT mouse", I get the error message but it doesn't take me to a screen or anything that would allow me to enter a passcode. :(
